It's no surprise that Mr. Phoenix would go crazy, he always has been. What is surprising is that he chose to display his insanity with the prospector / street bum look.
What bothered me most was that I was worried Joaquin would get upset because everyone was making fun of him. I was anticipating some awful outburst, and I kinda feel a little bad for him. Poor crazy man.
i think people thought he was totally joking which is probably why they kept laughing. letterman was being so mean. it was just such an awkard situation and letterman was not making it better.
